Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cougars lose heartbreaker to Cannoneers, 1-0 in overtime

Box Score

The Medgar Evers men's soccer team suffered a backbreaking defeat on Monday evening, suffering a 1-0 overtime loss to the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute. The contest took place on field No. 10 at Randall's Island. With the loss, the Cougars slip to a mark of 1-10 on the 2021 campaign. Pratt picked up its second victory on the year, improving to 2-11.

On what was a very cold and windy evening at Randall's Island, defense dominated the opening stanza, as both squads were only able to register four shots apiece. The second half told a different story, as the Cougars dominated in opportunities, peppering 11 shots (four on goal) compared to just two (one on goal) for Pratt Institute. Still, neither team was able to find the back of the net, as the competitive match headed for overtime.

In the 98th minute, the Cannoneers broke through for the golden goal as KL Hobart would register his first career goal, capitalizing off of a beautiful through pass from Taro Ito before tapping the ball past Medgar netminder Carl-Henry Obeissant for the win.

Pratt's Carter Boliek earned the shutout, his first of the season, making five saves in the process. Obeissant once again played stellar in goal, allowing just the one tally on the evening while stopping four shots.

For the game, the Cougars held a 15-9 edge in the shots category. Pratt Institute earned five corner kick opportunities, compared to four for Medgar Evers.

The Cougars will return to action on Wednesday, October 20, as they'll travel to Brooklyn College for a late afternoon clash with the Bulldogs. Start-time for the CUNYAC showdown is set for 4:30pm.
