Box Score

The Medgar Evers men's soccer team saw its bid for a berth in the 2021 CUNYAC Men's Soccer Tournament come to an end on Wednesday evening, as the Cougars dropped a conference match to the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College by a score of 4-2 at BC Field. With the loss, Medgar slipped to 1-11 on the year, and 1-5 in CUNYAC competition, essentially eliminating the Cougars from tournament contention. Brooklyn improved to 4-10 on the season with the triumph (4-3 CUNYAC).

Brooklyn College starting goalkeeper Utku Tanritanir set the tone for the match early, stopping a penalty shot attempt from Medgar's Jean Horacius in the 17th minute to keep things scoreless. The Bulldogs would later register the first tally of the conference confrontation on a header put into the net by Luis Garcia off of a beautiful pass by Brian Navarrete at 26:41. That would be the lone goal of the opening 45 minutes of action.

The Bulldogs would increase their advantage to a pair of goals at 56:31 when Alex Sosa converted on a penalty kick. Medgar's Horacius would respond by notching a penalty goal of his own 41 seconds later to slice the Cougars' deficit to a goal at 2-1.

Navarrete recorded his second assist of the match by feeding a ball to Akeem Hendricks for a score at 65:51.  However, Medgar would continue to battle, as Horacius converted on another penalty kick at 71:37 to keep the Cougars within striking distance of the Bulldogs.

Brooklyn would put together a few solid defensive stands, weathering the Cougars' push for the tying goal before Roko Radovani essentially put the match out of reach by scoring a goal in the final minute of play on an assist by Kimani Laylor.

The Bulldogs out-shot Medgar Evers 22-7 for the match. Brooklyn netminder Balint Barabas, picked up the win in goal, registering two saves in 60 minutes of action.

The Cougars will return to action on Saturday afternoon, as they'll play their home finale against the Beavers of the City College of New York. The match will take place at Kingsborough Community College, with a start-time of 1:00pm.
