The Medgar Evers men's basketball team lost an exhibition contest on Tuesday evening, falling to Division I St. Francis Brooklyn by a score of 113-51. The game took place at the Daniel Lynch '38 Gymnasium in Brooklyn Heights, NY. As per NCAA rules, while the contest does not reflect in the Cougars overall record, it was a regular season game for the Terriers, who have now won three straight (3-8) after dropping their first eight games to open the 2021-2022 campaign.

Despite the loss for the Cougars, freshman Andre Evans Jr. scored a game-high 22 points while tying for team-highs of six rebounds and two steals. Dante Simmons added 11 points while snatching six boards, and Joshua Jean Pierre and Aaron Cotterel netted seven points apiece.

In the victory for St. Francis Brooklyn, six players scored in double figures for the Terriers, highlighted by 19-point efforts from both Tedrick Wilcox Jr. and Max Egner. Egner registered a double-double in the victory, finishing with 19 points, 14 rebounds, two blocks, and one assist. Rob Higgins (5-6 FG) finalized his evening by scoring 12 points in 12 minutes of action, while Patrick Emilien (4-4 FG, 3-3 FT) contributed 11 points and four rebounds. Rounding out the players in double figures for the Terriers were Trey Quartlebaum and Kasper Suurorg, who netted 11 and 10 points, respectively.

St. Francis Brooklyn raced out to a 14-0 edge over the Cougars during the opening 6:19 of the contest. Rob Higgins was the primary contributor during that initial spurt, as he netted eight of the Terriers first 14 points. St Francis would go up by as many as 39 points in the opening session before taking a commanding 59-23 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Medgar Evers scored five of the first seven points of the second half to pull to within 33 (61-28) with 18:33 remaining in the game, but a 14-1 run over a span of 3:33 by St. Francis Brooklyn put the Terriers up 75-29. The Terriers built a lead as large as 65 points, before eventually capturing a 62-point win.

The Terriers dominated the game in all facets. St. Francis Brooklyn shot 58.8 percent from the floor (40-68) while holding Medgar Evers to 16 converted field goals and just 25 percent shooting on the night (16-64). St. Francis Brooklyn held edges of 58-25 in the rebounding category, 24-6 in the assists column, and earned a 9-2 difference in swatted shots.

The Cougars will now have 14 days off before returning for back-to-back home contests on Wednesday, December 29 and Thursday, December 30. On December 29, Medgar Evers will take on Connecticut College (2:00pm). The following day, the Cougars will take on Saint Joseph's College-Long Island (4:00pm).
