Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Despite out-shooting Pratt 16-12, Cougars fall 3-1 to Cannoneers at Randall's Island

The Medgar Evers men's soccer team lost a non-conference match on Monday afternoon, falling to the Cannoneers of Pratt Institute by a score of 3-1. The match was played on the No. 70 Field at Randall's Island. With the defeat, the Cougars dropped to 0-13 on the 2022 campaign, while Pratt improved to a mark of 1-9-2 with the victory.

The Cannoneers got on the board first in the 10th minute when Spencer Giuliano collected a pass from Theo Goldman and blasted home a ball through a fair amount of traffic to give Pratt Institute the 1-0 edge. Five minutes later, the Cannoneers increased their advantage to 2-0 when Diego Pina de la Hoz capitalized on a penalty kick, successfully tapping the ball past Louis Caiola.

Goldman scored an unassisted tally at 40:19 to give Pratt a commanding 3-0 edge. That would be the score as time expired on the opening session.

Medgar Evers came out aggressive in the second half, out-shooting the hosts by a wide margin of 13-4, yet, the Cougars were only able to net one goal, which came off the foot of standout defender Daniel Hacket with just 10 seconds remaining in the contest.

Dimitrios Papagiannakopoulos logged 84:39 of action, making five saves and not allowing a goal, as he earned the victory in net. His backup, Anil Pugh, made one save and allowed one goal in 5:21 of work. Medgar Evers netminder Louis Caiola made five saves in net.

The Cougars lost the game despite out-shooting Pratt Institute, 16-12.

Medgar Evers will return to the pitch on Wednesday afternoon, as the Cougars will travel to Flowers Park in New Rochelle, NY to take on CUNYAC foe Hunter College. Start-time for that contest is scheduled for 2:30pm.
