Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cougars undone by Cardinals' offensive barrage in second session

The Medgar Evers men's soccer team dropped a CUNYAC match on Saturday evening, falling to the Cardinals of York College by a score of 4-0. The match took place at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, NY. With the loss, the Cougars slipped to 0-15 (0-6) and were eliminated from contention for the 2022 CUNYAC Tournament. York improved to 2-6 (1-4 CUNYAC) with the triumph.

After 39 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Cardinals broke through for the conference contest's first goal when Mert Zor slashed a ball into the top corner of the net to give his team a 1-0 advantage. That would be the score as time expired on the opening session.

The second session featured the Cardinals gradually building their lead, eventually putting the game out of reach for the visitors. York's Jaden Brown took advantage of an opportunity in front, as he collected a loose ball off a corner kick and deposited it into the net to make it 2-0 in the 56th minute.

Later, in the 62nd minute, Emre Sahin pushed the home team's edge to three goals, as Jamar Johnson fed him a nifty pass before he found the back of the net. Djelili Okoro capped the scoring in the 76th minute, blasing home a longshot from 40 yards out to give the Cardinals their fourth and final goal of the evening.

Ricardo Dorcil got the victory in net for York, as he needed to make just three saves while earning a shutout. His counterpart, Medgar Evers' Louis Caiola, registered four saves despite yielding the four goals.

York College held a 21-9 edge in the shots category.

Medgar Evers will close out its season next Saturday, October 22, as it'll host Brooklyn College in a CUNYAC match. The contest will take place at Kingsborough Community College, with a start-time of 3:00pm.
