Roadrunners race past Cougars at the Bradley Center on Tuesday evening

The Cougars women's basketball team suffered a non-conference loss on Tuesday evening, falling to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College by a score of 80-27 at the Bradley Center in Mahwah, NJ. With the loss, Medgar Evers dipped to 2-7 on the 2022-2023 campaign, while Ramapo improved to 9-1.

Despite the loss for the Cougars, freshman point guard Jennifer Metra scored a team-high nine points to go along with four rebounds. Standout Sheily Quezada scored six points, but she also contributed a team-high nine rebounds to go along with five steals, and Mariame Gueye added six points and three boards. 

In the victory for Ramapo College, Carley Martin led the way for the Roadrunners, scoring a game-high 16 points while piling three dimes and adding two steals. Olivia Cosenzo scored 15 points while tallying five steals and grabbing three rebounds, and Marie Eid netted nine points and collected three caroms. Finally, it was Karly Wittenbauer pulling down a game-high 11 boards. 

The Roadrunners established the tempo and flow of the game early, racing out to a 26-5 lead after the opening session, and taking a commanding 50-16 edge into the locker room at halftime. Ramapo then allowed just 11 points in the second half, outscoring the Cougars by 19 (30-11) over the final two quarters.

Ramapo connected on 34 of 63 attempts from the floor (54 percent) compared to just a 20.8 conversion rate for the visitors (11-53). The Roadrunners held a slim 39-35 edge on the glass, while also piling 18 assists to Medgar Evers' four. Ramapo won the turnover battle, committing 20 miscues while forcing 36.

Medgar Evers will now have 20 days off before returning to action in the new calendar year, as the Cougars will start 2023 with a road contest at CUNYAC foe Hunter College. Start-time at the Hunter Sportsplex for that CUNY clash is scheduled for 5:00pm.
