The Medgar Evers men's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC game on Friday evening, falling to the Cardinals of York College by a score of 97-69. The contest took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars slipped to 5-14 on the season, including a mark of 2-8 in conference action. York College improved to 7-9 with the victory (5-3 in league play).

Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, three-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Andre Evans Jr. posted a team-high 18 points while also leading all players with five steals. Mousa Sinera posted yet another double-double, contributing 12 points while snatching a team-high 15 rebounds and adding four steals, and it was Dimitri Weeks finalizing his evening with 10 points and four caroms.

In the victory for the Cardinals, Quran Dublin led all scorers with 23 points. The standout also snatched 11 rebounds, tallied four assists, and added two steals. Mambe Koureissi connected on seven of his nine attempts from the floor, finishing with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and a pair of assists, and Donald Hartley Jr. contributed 15 points and seven rebounds. Tavon Prince converted on six of his seven freebees, finishing with 14 points, and Guillermo Hernandez led all players with a whopping 22 rebounds. He also scored 12 points, piled four dimes, swatted three shots, and added a pair of steals.

The Cougars held the lead for just a short time in this one, holding a 5-4 edge just 1:44 into the contest. York College then responded with a 17-2 run over a span of 6:29 to catapult to a 21-7 lead, taking control of the CUNYAC contest in the process. The Cardinals eventually went up by 18, and Medgar Evers was able to slice that aforementioned deficit to 12 points, but York College would eventually take a 50-32 edge into the locker room at halftime.

York College scored 10 of the first 15 points in the second half, snatching a commanding 60-37 lead with 17:01 to go. The Cougars did put together one last push to try and keep the game close, going on a 7-0 run to pull to within 16 at 60-44. The Cardinals' balanced attack became too much for Medgar Evers to withstand, as York eventually went up by as many as 30, winning the game by 28.

York College connected on 57.8 percent of its attempts from the floor in the first half (22-38), and finished with a conversion rate of 46.9 percent for the game (38-81). The Cougars hit on only 24 shots on the night, shooting 26.1 percent (24-92). York College converted on 15 of 24 attempts from the charity stripe (62.5 percent), while the Cougars hit on 60 percent of theirs (15-25). The Cardinals dominated the glass, snatching 78 caroms to Medgar's 45, and York tallied 25 assists, while the Cougars had nine. Medgar Evers did hold an edge in the steals column (14-7), while also committing just 11 turnovers on the evening compared to 28 York College miscues.

Medgar Evers will now have two days off before returning to action on Monday evening, as the Cougars will make the short trip to Brooklyn College for a CUNYAC clash with the Bulldogs. Start-time at Brooklyn's West Quad Gymnasium is scheduled for 7:00pm.
