Women's volleyball suffers pair of CUNYAC defeats at Nat Holman Gymnasium

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team lost a pair of CUNYAC matches on Saturday afternoon, falling to Lehman College in three sets (17-25, 21-25, 11-25), before suffering a sweep at the hands of the City College of New York (2-25, 5-25, 4-25). The matches took place at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in New York, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 1-4 on the 2022 campaign (0-2 CUNYAC). The Lightning are now 1-2 on the year (1-1 CUNYAC), while the Beavers stayed unblemished at 5-0 (2-0 CUNYAC).

In the Cougars' straight sets loss to Lehman College, Cristal Joseph led the way for Medgar Evers, tallying team-highs of four kills and seven digs. Quiara Brye Bey contributed five digs, four assists, and a pair of kills, and Cristina Carnegie added two kills and six digs.

Pacing the Lightning was Selena Mitchell, as she led all players with 10 kills. Sky Mercado added nine kills, and Andrea Alarcon finished with eight. Heder Rodriguez collected a match-high 28 assists go along with four digs.

Brye Bey led the Cougars in their loss to CCNY, notching three kills, three assists, and a pair of digs.

The Beavers were led by Bianka Catral in their victory over Medgar Evers, registering match-highs of nine kills and 12 service aces. She also added six digs. Nadia Campoverde contributed six service aces, six digs, and five kills, and Aubrey Jones notched a match-high 22 assists. Finally, it was Viviana Alatorre tallying a match-high 10 digs.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Monday evening, as the Cougars will take on the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury in a non-conference match. Start-time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
