Women's volleyball drops home opener in front of spirited crowd at Cougars Cave

The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team played its home opener last night, falling to the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury by scores of 13-25, 5-25, and 18-25. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 1-5 on the 2022 campaign, while the Panthers improved to 2-1.

In what was the first women's volleyball contest played at the Cougars Cave since October 29, 2019, the fans in attendance made their presence known, supporting Medgar Evers and amplifying the noise throughout the evening.

Despite coming up short, Medgar Evers was paced by Quiara Brye Bey, as she registered a team-high four assists while also contributing three digs. Raine Williams recorded a team-high five digs, and Jordan-Taylor Robinson, Britenie Marcelus, Cristal Joseph, and Britonya Lloyd tallied a kill apiece.

SUNY Old Westbury was paced by Clarissa Olivero, as she registered a match-high nine kills on the evening, and she also led all players with eight service aces. Rachel Marrero's 16 assists were a match-high, and she also contributed seven kills and three digs. Geanelle Sam contributed six kills, and setter Juliana Evans posted 10 assists.

The Cougars will look to bounce back on Thursday evening, as they'll travel to NJCU's John J. Moore Athletics and Fitness Center to clash with the Golden Knights. Start-time for the non-conference contest is scheduled for 7:00pm.
