Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Slow start hampers Cougars in loss to Bloodhounds in non-conference action

In a battle of two CUNYAC foes searching for their first victories of the 2022 campaign, the John Jay College (1-7) silenced the Medgar Evers men's soccer team, as the Bloodhounds defeated the Cougars (0-6) by a score of 7-0 in non-conference action. The match took place at Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn, NY.

The Bloodhounds dominated in the early stages of the clash, netting goals on their first four shot attempts. Hans Merilan opened up the scoring barrage just 2:13 into the opening session, slicing a ball into the goal off a pass from Brayan Alvarez to give his team a 1-0 edge. Kevin Luciano made it 2-0 John Jay, as he netted a goal just 7:20 later, with Alvarez assisting again. Abbas Elsayed pushed the advantage to 3-0, scoring an unassisted goal at 13:23, and Merilan scored just 2:14 after that, blasting home a shot from close range to put the Bloodhounds ahead 4-0. Michael Fernandez capped the first half scoring for John Jay, taking advantage of a swift lead pass from Junior Guaman to find paydirt. That made is 5-0 Bloodhounds, and that score would hold firm as time expired on the opening session.

The Cougars came out with admirable energy to start the second session, controlling the tempo and maintaining consistent possession throughout the opening 10 minutes of the half. Medgar Evers was still unable to find much in the way of scoring opportunities though, and John Jay would add goals at 66:11 (Andre Daniel-Garvey on a penality kick) and 74:12 (Guaman from Fernandez) to make it 7-0. That aforementioned 7-0 score would hold up for the remaining 15:48 of action.

John Jay held an 18-9 edge in the shots category, and Bloodhounds goalkeepers Tyler Solis and Arthuer Langlet combined to make five saves to earn the combined shutout.

Medgar Evers will look to finally break through for a victory on Saturday afternoon, as the Cougars will welcome Valley Forge University to Kingsborough Community College. Start-time for the non-conference affair is scheduled for 12:30pm.
