The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team registered its first victory of the 2022 campaign on Thursday evening, turning back the Cardinals of York College in a non-conference match by scores of 25-22, 25-13, and 30-28.  The match was played at the York College Gymnasium in Jamaica, Queens. With the triumph, Medgar Evers improves to 1-2 on the season, while the Cardinals are now 0-1.

The Cougars' hearty effort resulted in Medgar Evers Alumnus Michell Cadet earning her first victory as Head Coach.

As a team, the Cougars recorded 11 service aces, including a match-high five from Raine Williams. Williams also registered a match-high five digs, as well.

In the third and final set of the evening, neither squad took more than a three point lead, with the Cougars doing so twice, and the Cardinals, once. York College led 20-18, and appeared poised to push the match to a fourth set, but Medgar Evers rallied back to grab a 24-23 lead. With a chance to put the match a way, a Britenie Marcelus service error knotted the match at 24-all. A Jordan-Taylor Robinson kill put the Cougars ahead 25-24, but consecutive points catapulted York to a 26-25 edge.

Staring at a third set defeat, the Cougars stayed poised. Brye Bey registered a kill to tie the set, 26-26. Medgar Evers then took the lead, 27-26, when Carnegie would record a service ace. The teams then alternated the next three points, and, with the set knotted at 28 apiece, Medgar Evers scored two consecutive points to capture the set and the match.
