Quezada and Gueye combined for 42 points as Cougars drop CUNYAC game to Bulldogs

The Medgar Evers women's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC contest on Friday evening, falling to the Bulldogs in a CUNYAC Battle of Brooklyn by a score of 94-51. The game took place at the Cougars Cave. With the loss, Medgar Evers dipped to 2-9 overall (0-3 CUNYAC), while the Bulldogs improved to 6-7, and stayed unblemished in conference play at 3-0. 

Standout Sheily Quezada led the way for the Cougars, connecting on 10 of her 19 attempts from the floor to finish with a team-high 24 points. She also registered a team-high six steals, and game-highs of 16 rebounds and four blocks. Mariame Gueye sank three trifectas, finishing with 18 points, four rebounds, and a pair of assists, and Jennifer Metra added six rebounds, four points, and four dimes.

For the Bulldogs, Gianna Gotti finished with a double-double, scoring a game-high 26 points and coming up with 10 steals.  She also dished out five assists. Dasha Goodman scored 14 points in 17 minutes off of the bench and grabbed six boards. Brittany Gutierrez scored 12 points, tallied six steals, and piled six dimes, and Dior Dorsey finished with 12 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

The Bulldogs dominated from the opening tipoff, racing out to a 9-0 lead and building a commanding 37-14 advantage after one quarter of play. Brooklyn College led 58-27 at the half, and were up by as many as 46 points (90-44) before solidifying an impressive 43-point triumph.

Brooklyn connected on 48.2 percent of its attempts from the floor (41-85), while the Cougars had just a 35.4 percent conversion rate for the evening (17-48). The Bulldogs held a 45-34 edge on the glass, while also forcing 38 Cougar turnovers while committing just 16 miscues. The opportunistic Bulldogs racked-up 33 steals, while the Cougars recorded seven.

Medgar Evers will return to the court on Wednesday evening, as the Cougars will travel to the Nat Holman Gymnasium to take on the Beavers of the City College of New York in a CUNYAC contest. Start-time is scheduled for 5:00pm.
