The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team lost a non-conference match on Thursday evening, falling to the Devils of FDU-Florham by scores of 7-25, 1-25, and 5-25. The match took place at the Ferguson Recreation Center in Hackettstown, NJ. With the loss, the Cougars dipped to 0-17 on the year, while the Devils evened their record at 13-13.

First year player Jennifer Metra registered the only kill for the Cougars, while veteran Raine Williams' two digs were a team-high. Freshman newcomer Adacia Scotland also added a service ace for Medgar Evers.

FDU's Adrienne DeFuria led the way for the hosts, as he notched a match-high nine kills while hitting .615 for the evening (9-1-13). Charlotte Fruscione was perfect on the night, recording six kills in six attempts while also piling a match-high 17 service aces and adding two digs. Charlee Tarlac contributed six aces, and finally, it was setter Gianna Buscarino putting together a nice all-around match, registering a match-high seven assists to go along with seven service aces.

In the opening set of the evening, Medgar Evers raced out to a 3-2 advantage before the Devils ran off five consecutive points to catapult ahead 7-3. That spurt featured a kill from Gabbie Hart, and a pair of service aces by Buscarino. Later, leading 9-5, FDU scored 11 unanswered points to extend the set lead to 17-5. That aforementioned run was highlighted by Tarlac's six service aces. After a brief exchange of points, the Devils closed the set with a ferocious 7-0 spurt to capture it, 25-7.

FDU utterly dominated the second set, running off 24 consecutive points after a 1-1 tie. 14 of the Devils' 25 points in the set came courtesy of Fruscione, as she notched 14 of her match-high 17 service aces. DeFuria also added five kills during the set.

The Devils used another big run in the third set to put any chance of a Cougars comeback in doubt. FDU led 7-2 before scoring 13 consecutive points to grab a 20-2 edge. That run included five service aces from Buscarino and three kills from DeFuria. The Cougars scored three straight points (highlighted by an Scotland ace) before the Devils closed out the match with five unanswered points.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Monday evening, as the Cougars will play their final CUNYAC match of the 2023 campaign, traveling to Nat Holman Gymnasium to take on the Beavers of the City College of New York. Start-time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
