Women's volleyball swept by Hawks, Lightning in CUNYAC tri-match

The Cougars' women's volleyball team dropped a pair of CUNYAC matches on Saturday at Lehman College's APEX Center, falling to the Hunter College Hawks by scores of 8-25, 4-25, and 4-25, while also being defeated by the Lightning in three sets (12-25, 14-25, 19-25). With the losses, Medgar Evers was eliminated from CUNYAC playoff contention, as the Cougars dipped to 0-12 (0-6 CUNYAC).

Hunter College remained unblemished in CUNY play, improving to 14-5 overall and 4-0 in conference action. Lehman College is now 2-12 on the season, and 1-3 in CUNYAC action.

In Medgar's defeat against the Hawks, Britonya Lloyd finished with a pair of kills and four digs.

Hunter College was paced by Tessa Winkleman, as she led all players with 17 kills. Her six digs were also a match-high, as well. Tionna Moss contributed seven kills while hitting .875 for the match (7-0-8), and setter Kiara Abreu finished with a whopping 32 assists. The Hawks hit .554 in their win (38-7-56), while also registering 22 service aces.

In the Cougars' loss against Lehman, Lloyd tied for the match-high of nine kills, while also posting a match-high 15 digs. Jennifer Metra notched five kills while collecting six digs, and Aliyah Chapman added 11 digs and a pair of assists. Finally, it was veteran Quiara Brye Bey contributing a team-high five assists to go along with four digs.

For Lehman College, Daira Hernandez's nine kills tied for the match-high, while her 12 digs were a team-best. Abena Abankwa and Arianna Calderon each contributed five kills, and setter Ana Mena's 23 assists led all players.

Medgar Evers returns to the court on Tuesday evening, as the Cougars travel to Jamaica, NY to battle CUNYAC member York College in a non-conference match. Start-time at the York College Gymnasium is scheduled for 6:00pm.
