The Cougars' women's volleyball team dropped its final road match of 2023 on Saturday, falling to the Gryphons of Sarah Lawrence College by scores of 8-25, 14-25, and 7-25. The match took place at the Campbell Sports Center in Bronxville, NY. With the defeat, Medgar Evers slipped to 0-20 on the season, while Sarah Lawrence improved to 14-10.

Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, Britonya Lloyd contributed a pair of kills and a team-high eight digs. Jennifer Metra, Aaliyah Chapman, and Adacia Scotland each added a kill, and Quiara Brye Bey and Raine Williams registered five and four digs, respectively.

Skyler Kawecki-Muonio registered a match-high nine kills for the victorious Gryphons. She also added four service aces, as well. Athena Kazos contributed five kills, and setters Mia Rector and Ava Castro-Devarona piled 12 and 10 assists, respectively.  Kaille Ferguson's nine digs were a match-high, and Claire O'Rourke's five service aces led all players.

Sarah Lawrence held an 8-3 edge in the opening set, before scoring five straight points to take a 13-3 lead. Ferguson registered a pair of aces during that aforementioned spurt. After Medgar scored a point to halt the run, the Gryphons scored the next five points, courtesy of three service aces by O'Rourke, and a kill apiece by Kawecki-Muonio and Raegan Lacombe. Up 18-4 at that juncture, the hosts outscored Medgar 7-4 from there to win the opening set, 25-8.

In the second set, the Cougars kept things respectably close, trailing only 16-10, but the Gryphons put together a 6-0 run to take a commanding 22-10 edge. That spurt featured two kills by Kawecki-Muonio, an ace by O'Rourke, and three Medgar errors. Medgar Evers did run off three straight points to pull to within nine at 22-13, but Sarah Lawrence notched three of the final four points of the set to win it, 25-14, and go up 2-0 in the match.

The Gryphons raced out to a dominant 11-2 lead in the third set, and later led 20-5 before winning it, 25-7, to sweep the match.
Medgar Evers will close its 2023 campaign next week with a pair of matches at the Couagrs Cave, taking on Yeshiva University at 7:00pm this Wednesday, before facing York College in a non-conference contest Thursday at 6:00pm.
