Cougars defeated by Devils in non-conference action

The Cougars' women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match on Thursday evening, falling to the Devils of FDU-Florham by scores of 3-25, 5-25, and 5-25. The match took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, Medgar Evers slipped to 0-4 on the 2023 campaign, while the Devils improved to a mark of 6-3.

Despite the loss for Medgar Evers, the Cougars were paced by veteran Quiara Brye Bey, as she finalized her evening with a pair of kills. Raine Williams' eight digs led all players, and Britony Lloyd added two assists.

For the Devils, Rachel Reiter led the way with a match-high six kills (6-0-8, .750) to go along with four service aces and a pair of digs. Gianna Buscarino's 17 kills were not only a match high, but also an FDU record. Victoria Carrico's 10 assists were a match-high, and Vanessa Freeman's eight digs led all Devils.

FDU dominated the match from start to finish, registering a whopping 34 service aces while hitting .370 for the night (23-6-46).

Medgar Evers will look to get in the win column this Saturday, as the Cougars will travel to Hackettstown, NJ to compete in a non-conference tri-match. Medgar Evers will take on Sarah Lawrence College in a neutral match at 1:00pm, before taking on Centenary University at 3:00pm.
