Jennifer Metra registers four kills, hits .364 in Cougars' loss at Brooklyn College

The Cougars' women's volleyball team dropped a CUNYAC match last night, falling to their Bedford Avenue foes, the Brooklyn College Bulldogs, by scores of 4-25, 5-25, and 13-25. The conference clash took place at the West Quad Gymnasium on the campus of Brooklyn College. With the defeat, Medgar Evers dipped to 0-9 on the season (0-4 CUNYAC), while the Bulldogs improved to 4-5 (3-2 CUNYAC).

Medgar Evers was paced by newcomer Jennifer Metra, as she continued to show improvement by pacing the Cougars with a team-high four kills, hitting .364 in the process (4-0-11). She also contributed three digs and a service ace. Britonya Lloyd added two kills, a match-high eight digs, and two assists, and veteran Quiara Brye Bey finished with a team-high four assists to go along with seven digs.

For Brooklyn College, Aleah Rafat led the way for the hosts, finalizing her evening with a match-high of eight kills, while also contributing five service aces. Sydney Gdanski and Katia Mercado registered seven service aces apiece, and Emma Steele tied for the match-high of eight digs. Finally, it was setter Amra Mulic finishing with a match-high 11 assists.

The Bulldogs dominated the match, starting with the first set in which the hosts raced out to a 12-1 advantage. Brooklyn scored 25 of the set's 29 points overall. Leading 17-5 in the second set, Brooklyn snatched a 2-0 edge in sets by scoring eight consecutive points, capped off by a Kela Duncan kill.

In the third set, the match was knotted at four apiece before the Bulldogs rattled off six consecutive points to go up 10-4. Later, with Brooklyn holding a 22-13 edge, the Bulldogs slammed the door on the set and the match with three straight points, courtesy of a kill by Rafat, an attack error by Aliyah Chapman, and a service ace by Rafat.

33 percent of Brooklyn's points for the match came via the service ace, as the Bulldogs piled 25 of those on the evening.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Friday night, as the Cougars travel to Bronxville, NY to take on Sarah Lawrence College in a non-conference match. Start time at the Campbell Sports Center is scheduled for 7:00pm.
