Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cougars lose CUNYAC Battle of Brooklyn, fall to Bulldogs, 6-0

The Cougars' men's soccer team dropped a CUNYAC match yesterday, falling to the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College by a score of 6-0. The conference match took place at the Brooklyn College Field on the Bulldogs' campus. With the defeat, Medgar Evers fell to 0-6-1 on the 2023 season, while the hosts picked up their first victory, improving to 1-5 (1-0 CUNYAC).

Brooklyn College set the tone for the CUNYAC clash early, as Rayan Vukovic scored the opening two goals of the match inside the first four minutes of action. Both of those aforementioned tallies were assisted by George Koufos. The Bulldogs increased their lead to a commanding three goals when Seif Mokhtar gathered a deflection before slashing the ball home. That would be the final goal of the half, a session in which Brooklyn managed just four shots, but scored on three of them.

In the second half, the Bulldogs registered four times as many shots as they did in the opening 45 minutes, holding a 16-1 edge in the category in the final session. Brooklyn's Adan Khodorkowsky scored in the 48th minute, capitalizing on a gorgeous lead pass from Koufos to do so. The assist by Koufos was his third of the match at that juncture.

Later, Sophomore midfielder Bradlej Cupi scored the final two goals of the match including a header off of a set piece from Yassin Hairane. Cupi and Hairane would link up again in the 64th minute, with Cupi once again finding the back of the net off of a feed from Hairane.

Bulldogs netminder Jordi Hernandez earned his first victory and shutout of the 2023 campaign, making four saves in the process. His counterpart, Aiden Ally, made four saves despite allowing the six goals.

For the match, Brooklyn held a commanding 20-8 edge in shots.

Medgar Evers will close out September with a match this Saturday at CUNYAC foe Lehman College. Start-time for that match at the Lightning's South Field is scheduled for 12:00pm.
