Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars defeated by Hawks in straight sets; Jennifer Metra, Aliyah Chapman, and Torey Richards honored prior to match

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team lost its home finale earlier this evening, falling to the Hawks of Hunter College by scores of 9-25, 11-25, 6-25. The match took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars slipped to a mark of 1-18 overall (0-7 CUNYAC), while the Hawks improved to a record of 19-7 (6-0 CUNYAC).

Prior to the match, seniors Jennifer Metra, Aliyah Chapman, and Torey Richards were honored by the Medgar Evers College Department of Athletics. Each of the aforementioned student-athletes were presented with commemorative picture frames from Director of Athletics Chetara Murphy and Head Coach Michell Cadet. The commemorative pictures frames were given as a show of appreciation for their dedication to the women's volleyball program over the years.

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Britonya Lloyd finalized her evening with a team-high two kills, and she also tied for the team-high of five digs with Metra. Adacia Scotland added four digs, as well.

In the victory for Hunter College, the Hawks were paced by Kassidy Cruz Nuesi, as she swatted .381 on the evening, registering a match-high 11 kills to go along with three service aces. Ana Duran finalized her evening with seven kills (7-1-9, .667), and Simone McIntyre added six kills. Liliana's 13 service aces were a match-high, and Bethany Tomaneng piled a match-best 25 assists on the night.

For the match, Hunter College swatted .277 (32-14-65) compared to -.200 for Medgar Evers (3-12-45). The Hawks compiled a whopping 23 service aces on the evening, while also holding a 29-18 edge in digs.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Tuesday evening, as the Cougars travel to Newburgh, NY to take on the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College. Start-time for the non-conference clash is scheduled for 6:00pm.
