Cougars defeated by Knights in straight sets; Aliyah Chapman paces Medgar Evers with team-high three kills

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match on Tuesday evening, falling the Knights of Mount Saint Mary's College by scores of 6-25, 7-25, and 4-25. The match took place at the Kaplan Center in Newburgh, NY. With the loss, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 1-19 on the 2024 campaign, while the Knights improved to 8-16.

Senior Aliyah Chapman led the Cougars with a team-best three kills to go along with a pair of digs. Britonya Lloyd, Jennifer Metra, and Maritza Argueta each contributed a kill and four digs, and Sariyah Brumaire finished with a team-high three assists to go along with three digs.

Mount Saint Mary's was paced by Julianna Simone, as she swatted .700 on the evening, finishing with a match-high 14 kills to go along with two digs. Jonaiya Williams finalized her evening with 10 kills, three service aces, and a dig, and Brooke Lavelle added seven kills (7-1-10, .600). Sofia Fredericks and Aubriana Boyce registered 17 and 13 assists, respectively, and Erin Lema and Ava Robles tied for the match-high of six service aces.

The Knights swatted .500 for the evening (36-5-52), compared to -.100 for Medgar Evers (6-10-40). The hosts also had 24 service aces, while registering 33 assists to the Cougars' five.

Medgar Evers will wrap up its 2024 campaign on Saturday, as the Cougars will travel to Rutgers-Newark to compete in a tri-match. Medgar Evers will face Rutgers-Newark at 11:00am, before taking on King's College (PA) in the neutral contest at 1:00pm.
