Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's soccer defeated by Bulldogs in competitive, low-scoring CUNYAC clash at Flushing Meadows Corona Park

The Medgar Evers College men's soccer team dropped a CUNYAC match on Wednesday afternoon, falling to borough foe Brooklyn College by a score of 2-0. The clash took place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park (Field #8) in Queens, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars are now 2-8-1 on the 2024 campaign (0-1 CUNYAC), while the Bulldogs improved to a mark of 2-7 (1-0 CUNYAC).

There were multiple scoring opportunities in the opening half, but neither CUNYAC squad was able to break through for the opening goal. The Bulldogs peppered five shots on goal, all of which were collected by Cougars netminder Clirian Nunez. Medgar Evers sliced four shots on net, but Hady Bakry was up to task, stopping all four.

Brooklyn College broke through for the important first score of the contest when Adam Moharam collected George Koufos' corner kick in the box before blasting it home to put the Bulldogs ahead 1-0 in the 55th minute. Brooklyn's Mohammed Alghanimi, who has his previous two shots on net stopped, cashed in on his third opportunity, slipping a ball past Nunez to increase Brooklyn's edge to 2-0 (assisted by Moharam).

Following Alghanimi's goal, the Cougars were only able to sprinkle one more shot on net for the remainder of the match, a blast from John Amady that was saved by Brooklyn's reserve netminder, Brian Perea.

Perea got the victory for the Bulldogs between the pipes, logging 29:08 and not allowing a goal while making two saves. Starter Hady Bakry, who played the first half and then the final 15:52, didn't allow a Cougars tally, while also stopping four shots. Medgar Evers goalkeeper Clirian Nunez played brilliantly in net despite allowing two goals, as he stopped 10 shots and kept the Cougars in the match multiple times.

For the match, the Bulldogs held a 21-11 edge in shots, including a 12-6 advantage in shots on-target. Brooklyn also earned six corner kick opportunities compared to Medgar Evers' one, and the Bulldogs were whistled for 19 fouls to the Cougars' eight.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Saturday, as the Cougars will host the Lightning of Lehman College in yet another CUNYAC match. Start-time for the CUNYAC clash is 12:00pm, and it'll be played at Lehman College's South Field in the Bronx.
