Cougars unable to establish offensive rhythm in CUNYAC loss to Lightning

The Medgar Evers men's soccer team dropped a CUNYAC match on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Lightning of Lehman College by a score of 4-0. Despite playing on Lehman's South Field, the Medgar Evers served as the host school. With the loss, the Cougars slipped to a mark of 2-9-1 on the 2024 campaign (0-2 CUNYAC), while Lehman improved to 3-6-1, and 1-0-1 in league play.

In a match dominated by the Lightning, all four of Lehman's goals came in the first half. At 3:54, Lehman struck first when Alexander Agyemang collected a corner kick off the foot of Adam Kowalski before burying the ball into the back of the net to give his team a 1-0 edge. Later, in the 22nd minute, the Lighting went up 2-0 when Cameron Dennis notched a tally (from Rachid Cherif). Lehman increased its lead to 3-0 when Butrious Bash slashed home Bright Takyi's pass at 27:12, and Nhalkanipho Linda cashed in on a penalty kick, scoring on is at 33:38. 

Lightning goalkeeper Andres Bajaras only needed to make two saves to earn the shutout for his squad. Cougars rookie goalkeeper Clirian Nunez, despite allowing four first half goals, made nine saves on the afternoon.

Lehman College held a 33-2 edge in shots, while also earning eight corner kicks to Medgar Evers' one.

Medgar Evers will now have three days off before resuming its three-match homestand on Wednesday, as the Cougars will host Baruch College in a CUNYAC match at Flushing Meadows Corona Park (Field #8). Start-time is scheduled for 3:15pm.
