The Lightning led 20-12 late in the opening set, before running off four consecutive points, courtesy of a kill apiece by Mesa, Erika Vasquez, and Thoma, and a kill by Abena Abankwa, to snatch a 24-12 edge. Medgar Evers fought off set-point twice thanks to consecutive kills by Metra, before an Argueta service error clinched the set for the Lightning (25-14).

Medgar Evers held a 6-4 advantage in the second set before the Cougars went on a ferocious 5-0 run to build a seven-point edge (11-4). That run featured four straight Lehman errors, and a Lloyd service ace. Medgar Evers eventually went ahead by as many as eight points (14-6), before the Lightning notched 19 of the set's final 22 points to win it, 25-17, and take a 2-0 lead in sets for the evening. During that 19-3 spurt, Lehman was led by Alanis Vasquez, who registered six service aces.

Trailing 5-0 in the third set, the Cougars battled back, scoring 10 of the ensuing 13 points to catapult ahead of Lehman by a score of 10-8. Edwards and Argueta registered a service ace apiece during that aforementioned stretch. The Lightning then answered, running off 10 consecutive points to re-take the lead, going ahead by a score of 18-10. Lehman would then keep the Cougars at bay, outscoring the hosts 7-5 over the remainder of the set to win it, 25-15, and earn the sweep.
