Women's volleyball drops pair of non-conference matches to Bulldogs and Lightning on Saturday

The Medgar Evers women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches today at a tri-match hosted by Brooklyn College. The Cougars lost to the host Bulldogs in three sets (10-25, 9-25, 4-25), before getting defeated by the Lightning of Lehman College by scores of 9-25, 9-25, and 13-25. With the two defeats, the Cougars dipped a mark of 1-12 on the 2024 campaign. Brooklyn improved to 6-8, while the Lightning moved to 5-8.

Despite the Cougars' loss to the Bulldogs, Medgar Evers was led by Britonya Lloyd and Maritza Argueta, who tied for the team-high of two kills. Argueta also added four digs, as well. In addition, Torey Richards and Adacia Scotland registered six and five digs, respectively.

In the victory for Brooklyn, Aleah Rafat's nine kills led all players. She also contributed five digs and three service aces. Danielle Fuxman finished with seven kills while swatting .778 (7-0-9), and Amy Kaza added four kills and a pair of service aces. Sydney Gdanski piled a match-high 12 service aces to go along with six assists, and Amra Mulic's seven assists were a match-high.

Brooklyn swatted .224 for the match (29-14-67), while Medgar Evers hit -.085. (6-10-47). The Bulldogs piled 29 service aces for the match, while also holding a 31-22 edge in digs.

Adacia Scotland led the way for Medgar Evers in the team's loss to Lehman College. The veteran registered a team-high three kills to go along with six digs. Lloyd also contributed 11 digs, while Argueta added nine.

Alanis Vasquez was the Lightning's prime contributor, recording six kills and swatting .750 (6-0-8). She also added five digs, as well. Abena Abankwa finished with four kills and a pair of service aces, and Jessica Narvaez finished with a match-high 14 service assists, and Elainne Rojas Mesa and Sahiam Lora tied for the match-high of four service aces.

For the match, Lehman swatted .312 (33-9-77), while Medgar Evers hit in the negative (4-14-63, -.159). The Lightning held advantages in service aces (22-3) and digs (45-35), as well.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Tuesday evening, as the Cougars will travel to New York, NY to battle John Jay College in a CUNYAC match. Start-time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
