The Medgar Evers College men's and women's cross country teams wrapped up their 2024 seasons this past Saturday, competing at the NCAA Division III Metro Regional Cross Country Championships at Dream Park in Logan Township, NJ. The Cougar women finished 23rd among 25 competing institutions in the 6K meet, while the men's squad finished 25th in the 8K race. In all, the Cougars put forth tremendous efforts, earning respect and admiration from first year Head Coach Hugh Reid.

"I am incredibly proud of the effort and performances of the men and women who represented our institution at the 2024 NCAA Division III Metro Regional Cross Country Championships," Reid said. "Having the opportunity to compete in this meet was a significant achievement for both of our teams. Each student-athlete ran with heart and left everything on the course, setting a solid foundation for future seasons."

On the women's side, All-Star Kenia Irish-Bramble was the first runner to finish for the Cougars, as she crossed the tape 130th overall with a time of 27:30. Fellow All-Star Nana Samake was Medgar Evers' second finisher, as she placed 145th overall with a time of 29:24. Aaliyah Bartholomew impressed by setting a personal-best by three minutes, as she was the third Cougar to finalize the course (153rd overall, 30:09), and Medgar Evers' final two finishers, Jada Lambert (168th overall, 33:50) and Shaniya Chung (170th overall, 34:03), came within mere seconds of their personal-bests, showcasing their talent and potential

For the Medgar Evers men's team, all five finishers recorded personal-best times, led by standout and CUNYAC Sportsmanship Award winner Joshua Felix, as he finished 170th overall and ran a two-minute personal-best with a time of 35:39. Jose Janvier, who also ran a two-minute persona-best, crossed the tape mere seconds after Felix, finalizing the course 171st overall (35:41). Tyler Smith improved his 8K time by eight minutes, finishing 174th overall (36:14), and Jalen Atkinson, Medgar's fourth finisher, improved his time by three minutes, coming in 175th (36:27). The Cougars' fifth and final runner to cross the tape was Nicholas Winns, as he set a personal-best by one minute, earning a 179th place finish (37:28).

A majority of the cross country runners will now make the transition to the indoor track and field season. Medgar Evers' indoor track and field teams will begin their seasons on December 7, as the teams will travel to the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center in Providence, RI to compete in the Alden Invitational, hosted by Brown University.
