The Medgar Evers men's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC game on Tuesday evening, falling to the Lightning of Lehman College by a score of 77-71. The competitive contest took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dropped to a mark of 2-19 on the 2023-2024 campaign (0-10 CUNYAC), while Lehman improved to a record of 13-8 (8-2 CUNYAC) with the victory.

Despite the loss for the Cougars, four-time CUNYAC Rookie of the Week Nicholas Guillen continued to become one of the most dangerous players in the conference, as he drained five triples, finishing with a game-high 26 points. He also tied for the game-high of seven assists and collected three rebounds. Workhorse Joshua Jean Pierre posted a double-double with 22 points (10-15 FG), a team-high 15 rebounds, seven assists, and two blocked shots, and newcomer Derek Wicker added eight points, 13 boards, and a game-high three blocked shots.

Juan Fernandez scored 17 points, dished four assists, and snatched three rebounds, and DeAundre Manuel posted a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Finally, it was Cameron Burns finishing with 14 points, five boards, and a team-high five assists.

In what was a tightly-contested opening half, the teams were tied at eight apiece with 14:47 remaining in the opening session before the Cougars put together a 7-2 run to take a 15-10 advantage. Guillen highlighted that aforementioned spurt with five points. The Lightning scored the next five points to tie the game at 15, and the opening half would feature four more deadlocks (17-17, 20-20, 22-22, and 24-24) before Lehman took the lead for good when Parris converted on a jumper to put the visitors ahead 26-24 with 5:05 left in the half. The Lightning outscored the Cougars 13-9 in the final five minutes of the session to take a modest 39-33 edge into the locker room at halftime.

Lehman eventually went up by as many as 14 (62-48) following a converted triple by Fernandez with 7:30 to go, but the Cougars refused to quit, putting together a 12-4 run over the ensuing 5:15 to pull to within four, 66-60, with 2:15 remaining. Guillen netted five points during that charge, with Wicker adding four. The Lightning scored the next two baskets to build a 70-60 advantage, but Medgar Evers continued to push, slicing Lehman's edge to just five points, 73-68, with 18 seconds left.

The Lightning exhibited some clutch free throw shooting in the waning seconds, as Lehman converted on all four of its freebees down the stretch, eventually winning the CUNYAC clash, 77-71.

Neither team shot the basketball well in this one, with Medgar Evers earning a 38 percent conversion rate (30-79), and the Lightning shooting just 32.2 percent from the field (28-87). Lehman dominated the glass, snatching 64 rebounds on the evening compared to 47 for the Cougars, and the Lightning also held a 10-6 edge in steals.
