The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match on Wednesday evening, falling to the Lightning of Lehman College by scores of 10-25, 15-25, and 10-25. The match took place at the APEX Center in the Bronx. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 0-3 on the 2024 campaign, while the Lightning improved to 1-2.

Despite the loss for the Cougars, veteran Britonya Lloyd tied for the match-high of seven kills, hitting .333 in the process (7-2-15). She also added five digs and an assist, as well. Jennifer Metra's six digs tied for the match-high, and she also registered two kills and a service ace. Finally, it was Maritza Argueta and Aliyah Chapman recording five digs apiece.

The Lightning were led by Arianna Calderon, as she registered seven kills, tying Lloyd for the match-high. She also added six digs and four service aces as well. Abena Abankwa contributed four kills, hitting .571 on the evening (4-0-7). Ana Mena's eight assists led all players, and she also contributed six service aces and three digs. Cheyenne Gray-Taitt's seven service aces were a match-best.
Medgar Evers kept things close in the opening set, trailing just 9-6 in the early stages, but the Lightning captured 16 of the set's final 20 points, winning it 25-10. Seven of those aforementioned 16 points were recorded via service aces, with Calderon and Gray-Taitt registering two apiece, and Chloe Colon contributing three.

Trailing 10-4 in the second set, the Cougars outscored the Lightning 7-1 to tie it up at 11-all. Argueta registered two service aces during that spurt, with Metra adding a kill and a service ace. Just as it did in the opening set, however, Lehman College finished strong, going on a 14-4 run to capture the set, 25-15, and take a 2-0 edge for the match.

The Cougars trailed 18-9 in set three before the Lightning went on a 7-1 run to close things out and earn the sweep of the non-conference clash. A kill apiece by Kimarea Brown and Calderon, and a pair of aces by Gray-Taitt highlighted that aforementioned closeout run.

Lehman College hit .283 for the match (23-8-53), while Medgar Evers hit in the negative (11-15-48, -.083). The Lightning also held a massive edge in service aces, registering 26 compared to three for the hosts. The teams were dead even in digs, recording 22 apiece.
