Medgar Evers drops pair of non-conference affairs, falling to Keystone and King's College (PA) on Saturday

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of defeats on Saturday, falling in three sets to Keystone College Giants by scores of 5-25, 9-25, and 11-25, before falling to King's College-PA, 2-25, 3-25, and 8-25. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to 0-5 on the 2024 campaign, while the Giants upper their mark to 7-2, and the Monarchs moved to 7-1.

Despite the loss to the Giants, the Cougars were paced by Raine Williams' team-high two kills. She also added two digs, as well. Britonya Lloyd and Maritza Argueta recorded four and three digs, respectively.

Elise Burk and Kameryn Cortinas tied for the match-high eight kills for Keystone, while Taylor Howard added five. Burk contributed a match-high eight aces, with Hannah Ely picking up seven. Finally, it was Genevieve Mennemeyer leading all players team with 15 assists

Keystone hit .563 for the match (32-5-48) while registering a whopping 32 aces. The Giants also held a slim 15-11 edge in digs.

After a relatively quiet performance against the Giants, Lloyd bounced back to register a team-high three kills in the Cougars' loss against King's College (PA). She also contributed three digs, as well. Williams finished with a team-leading five digs to go along with three assists, and veteran Adacia Scotland contributed two kills and four digs.

Lindsay Arezina's 11 kills led all players, and Emma Bolich and Jessica Menze contributed four kills apiece. Brynn Giordano piled a team-best 18 service aces while also registering seven digs and adding four assists. Ashley Webber's 15 assists led all players.

King's finished with 30 kills, 28 assists, 28 aces, 23 digs, and a hitting percentage of .453.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Tuesday evening, as the Cougars will host CUNYAC foe Brooklyn College. Start-time at the Cougars Cave is scheduled for 6:00pm.
