Women's Volleyball silenced by CUNYAC foe Brooklyn College in three sets Tuesday evening

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team suffered a CUNYAC defeat on Tuesday evening, falling to borough foe Brooklyn College by scores of 8-25, 4-25, and 3-25. The match took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-6 on the 2024 campaign (0-1 CUNYAC), while the Bulldogs leveled their record at 4-4 (1-0 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for the Cougars, veteran Adacia Scotland's two kills were a team-high. She also added a pair of digs, as well as an assist. Britonya Lloyd and Raine Williams also contributed seven digs apiece on the evening.

Pacing Brooklyn College in its victory was Aleah Rafat, as she registered a match-high 10 kills (10-0-13, .769) to go along with eight digs. Magdalena Mackiewicz added five kills, and Ayatallah Elkotby and Danielle Fuxman recorded four kills apiece. Sydney Gdanski's 10 service aces led all players, and standout Amra Mulic contributed a match-high 19 assists to go along with nine service aces.

Brooklyn College held a 10-4 edge in the first set, and essentially dominated the rest of the match from that juncture forward. Following an attack error by Lloyd, the Bulldogs outscored the hosts 15-4 for the remainder of the set, highlighted by Rhianna Marrero's three service aces and Mackiewicz's two kills.

The Bulldogs dominated the final two sets, yielding only seven combined points to the Cougars while hitting an incredible .625 in the second (10-0-16) and .765 in the third (13-0-17).

Brooklyn held a commanding 32-4 edge in the kills column for the match, while also piling a whopping 29 service aces compared to just two for the Cougars.

Medgar Evers will now have three days off before returning to the court on Saturday afternoon, as the Cougars will travel to Phoenixville, PA to compete in a non-conference tri-match. At 1:00pm, Medgar Evers will take on York College (NY), and that'll be followed by a Cougars clash with the University of Valley Forge Patriots, a match that will serve as a rematch of the classic five-set battle between the teams that took place at the Cougars Cave back on September 9.
