Cougars generate just three shots, fall 4-0 to University of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale

The Medgar Evers College men's soccer team suffered a non-conference defeat on Monday evening, falling to the Dolphins of the University of Mount Saint Vincent by a score of 4-0. The match took place at Athletic Field at Marillac in Riverdale, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 1-4-1, while the host Dolphins stayed unbeaten, moving to 4-0-2.

In the early stages of the contest, Dolphins striker Javier Trujillo took control, netting two goals 54 seconds apart to put the University of Mount Saint Vincent ahead 2-0. The first goal came at the 11:18 mark (assisted by Amos Bignotti), with the second tally coming at 12:12 (assisted by William Sornin). Those would be the only two goals scored in a half that saw the Dolphins hold an impressive 14-2 edge in shots.

At the 56:54 mark, the Dolphins would add another goal, with German Cruz registering an unassisted goal. The University of Mount Saint Vincent would tack on one final goal courtesy of Maxwell Bounaga (unassisted) with just 80 seconds remaining in regulation (88:40).

Samuel Reine played the first half in net and earned the victory for the hosts, logging 45 minutes and not allowing a goal while stopping two shots. Miguel Ferro came on in relief in the second stanza, as he manned the pipes for 45 minutes, yielding no tallies and making one save. Cougars netminder Clirian Nunez played 88:49, allowing four goals and stopping eight shots in a hearty effort despite suffering the defeat in net.

The Dolphins held an impressive 25-3 edge in shots, while also earning six corner kick opportunities compared to one for Medgar Evers.

Medgar Evers will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon, as the Cougars will travel to Dix Hills, NY to take on the Sound of Five Towns College. Start-time is scheduled for 3:30pm.
