Women's volleyball defeated by Baruch College in CUNYAC clash at ARC Arena

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team dropped a CUNYAC match on Tuesday evening, falling to the Bearcats of Baruch College in three sets by scores of 5-25, 10-25, and 15-25. The match took place at the ARC Arena in New York, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars slipped to a mark of 1-8 overall (0-2 CUNYAC), while the Bearcats improved to a mark of 5-3 (2-0 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Medgar Evers was paced by veteran Britonya Lloyd's team-highs of four digs, three kills, and two assists. Adacia Scotland also contributed a pair of service aces, as well.

Dibjot Kaur led the way for Baruch College, totaling a match-best 13 kills on the evening (13-5-21, .381) to go along with three service aces and a pair of digs. Karolina Lundqvist swatted .500 on the night, earning seven kills on 12 attempts with just one hitting error. Michelle Murillo's seven service aces led all players, and Karen Pozo Castro and Pei Qiong Ren finished with 17 and 10 assists, respectively.

After winning the opening set convincingly by a score of 25-5, the Bearcats held a modest 5-4 advantage in the second set before scoring 13 consecutive points to take a commanding 18-4 advantage. Murillo registered seven service aces during that aforementioned run, with Kaur adding four kills. Later, with Baruch leading 23-6, the Cougars scored four straight points, courtesy of three Bearcat hitting errors and one set error, to pull to within 13 at 23-10. The hosts then closed out the set with a kill by Lundqvist and a service aces by Kaur.

In the third set, Medgar Evers trailed 23-13 before scoring three of the ensuing four points, highlighted by one kill apiece by Lloyd and Martiza Argueta. Baruch College's Elana Vaysburd then put the match away by swatting a kill off a beautiful set by Karen Pozo Castro.

Baruch College swatted .288 for the evening (29-12-59) while piling 31 service aces, and Medgar Evers hit -.184 (5-12-38) and finalized its evening with four service aces. The Bearcats held a respectable 20-13 edge in digs, as well.

The Cougars will look to bounce back on Friday evening, as Medgar Evers will travel to the Liebertz Gymnasium in King's Point, NY to clash with United States Merchant Marine Academy. Start-time for the non-conference contest is scheduled for 7:00pm.
