The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team lost a CUNYAC clash last night, falling to CUNYAC foe Lehman College by a score of 110-73. The contest took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, Medgar dipped to a mark of 3-12 on the 2024-2025 campaign (1-3 CUNYAC), while the Lightning improved to 10-5 overall (4-0 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Jonathan Grimsley scored a team-high 19 points. He also collected six rebounds and dished three assists, as well. Ryan Panagakos contributed 13 points on the evening, and Ahmed Toure finalized his evening with 10 points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists.

Five players scored in double figures for the victorious Lightning, including Kai Parris, as he posted a double-double with game-highs of 29 points and 12 rebounds. Lehman College raced out to an early 8-2 advantage in the opening three minutes of action, but a three-point basket by Panagakos, and a converted layup by Andre Evans Jr. brought the hosts to within a point (8-7). Shortly later, the Lightning led 11-9 before consecutive drained trifectas by Marks pushed Lehman's advantage to eight, 17-9. Four straight points by Grimsley inched Medgar to within four (17-13) as the Cougars kept things tight in the early stages.

With 8:56 remaining in the half, the Lightning built an 11-point advantage (30-19), but the Cougars answered again with eight consecutive points, courtesy of four points by Grimsley, a basket by Toure, and a hoop by Trevonne Tcha. That cut Lehman's advantage to three, 30-27. The Lightning then put together a ferocious 18-4 run to close the half, taking a commanding 48-31 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

Panagakos and Grimsley drilled consecutive buckets to start the second half, as Medgar Evers pulled to within 13 (48-35), but it was all Lehman College from there. The Lightning outscored Medgar Evers 62-38 the rest of the way, shooting 64.1 percent from the field in the second half (25-39), draining five three-point baskets, and piling 18 assists. Lehman gradually built its lead throughout the final 20 minutes, eventually winning the game convincingly by 37.

The Lightning were the more efficient team shooting the basketball, as Lehman earned a conversion rate of 60 percent (45-75), while Medgar Evers hit on 27 out of 73 shot attempts (37 percent).
