Women's cross country freshman Brianna Lindo earns pair of CUNYAC distinctions following early-season success

The City University of New York Athletic Conference has distributed four weeks of weekly conference awards or women's cross country, and the Cougars have been represented by newcomer Brianna Lindo, who has done a tremendous job of making her presence felt during the first half of the season so far. For the period of September 8 through September 14, she was tabbed CUNY's Rookie of the Week. Then, most recently, for the period of September 22 through September 28, the freshman earned an Honorable Mention. Following the announcement of the most recent distinction, Head Coach Hugh Reid spoke about his standout newcomer.

"Brianna has been nothing short of phenomenal in her rookie campaign thus far", Reid said. She is already rewriting our record books, standing at No. 3 all-time in the 6K, and week after week, she courageously battles the top distance runners in the conference. Brianna's relentless work ethic, competitive spirit, and well-rounded talent makes her a standout student-athlete. We are proud that she is playing a big role in making the Cougars a real part of the conversation for this year's championship. In the last two years, we have progressively improved as a team, and Brianna is a great addition to those efforts."

Back on Friday, September 12 at the Herb Lorenz Invitational (hosted by the College of New Jersey), Lindo put forth a dazzling effort for the Cougars, earning 17^th place by setting a new personal-record, and shattering the previous Medgar Evers College record, by crossing the tape at 22:39.4.

Most recently, at the Queensborough Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park this past Sunday, Lindo placed 20th out of 159 runners, posting a 5K time of 23:53.

Lindo and the Cougars will return to action on Wednesday, October 8, as Medgar Evers will travel to the Delhi Golf Course in Delhi, NY to compete in the 27^th Annual Bronco Classic.
