Cougars overwhelmed by Cyclones in non-conference action at John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference match on Thursday evening, falling to the Cyclones of Centenary University by scores of 5-25, 4-25, and 6-25. The match took place at John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center in Hacketsttown, NJ. With the defeat, the Cougars fell to 0-15 on the year, while Centenary improved to 12-11.

Sariyah Brumaire registered the lone kill on the evening for Medgar Evers College. Aliyah Chapman contributed a service ace, and Naiby Figueroa tallied a team-best five digs.

Jenny Thistlethwaite led the way for the Cyclones, as she recorded a match-high seven kills (7-0-8, .875) to go along with five digs and a service ace. Poppy Skjonnemand recorded six kills (6-0-8, .750), six digs, and five service aces, and Vanessa Pagano posted whopping match-highs of 15 assists and 14 service aces. Rey Bennett's eight digs led all players.

The Cyclones' offense fired on all cylinders, quickly establishing momentum and never letting up. Their defensive effort was just as impressive, limiting Medgar Evers to single digits in each set and controlling the tempo throughout the course of the non-conference affair.

Centenary hit .350 for the match (18-4-40) while recording a whopping 35 service aces.

The Cougars now have four days off before returning to action on Tuesday evening, as Medgar Evers will welcome the Baruch College Bearcats to the Cougars Cave in what will be Medgar Evers' final home match of the 2025 campaign. Prior to the contest, Jennifer Metra and Aliyah Chapman will be honored by the Medgar Evers College Department of Athletics and the women's volleyball program. Start-time for the match is scheduled for 7:00pm.
