MEC Department of Athletics honors Jennifer Metra, Aliyah Chapman prior to home finale vs. Baruch

The Medgar Evers College women's volleyball team lost its home finale on Tuesday evening, falling to the Bearcats of Baruch College by scores of 8-25, 6-25, 3-25. The match took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, the Cougars slipped to a mark of 0-16 overall (0-6 CUNYAC), while the Bearcats improved to a record of 9-13 (5-1 CUNYAC).

Prior to the match, seniors Jennifer Metra and Aliyah Chapman were honored by the Medgar Evers College Department of Athletics. Both student-athletes were recognized with beautiful heart-felt speeches that commemorated their tenures on the team.

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Metra finalized her evening with a team-high two kills to go along with two digs. Sariyah Brumaire contributed a kill and three digs, and Sarah Vallon's four digs were a team-high.

For Baruch College, Mariajose Ortiz-Marmolejo led the attack with a match-high six kills while hitting an impressive .600. Isabel Torres contributed a match-best 14 assists to go along with eight service aces, and Jennifer Dong's nine service aces led all players.

The Bearcats dominated the match from start to finish, earning an impressive hitting percentage of .450 (22-4-40). The Cougars registered just three kills and hit in the negative. Baruch held a whopping 29-1 edge in service aces, and a 20-14 advantage in digs.

Medgar Evers will play its final non-conference matches of the season on Sunday afternoon, as the Cougars will travel to Camden, NJ to battle Rutgers-Camden at 12pm, and St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn at 2pm.
