Men's soccer undone by SUNY Maritime's barrage of first half goals, as Privateers beat Cougars, 6-0

The Medgar Evers College men's soccer team suffered a non-conference defeat on Monday evening, falling to the Privateers of SUNY Maritime by a score of 6-0. The match took place at Reinhart Field in Throggs Neck, NY. With the loss, the Cougars dipped to 1-8-1 on the 2025 campaign, while the hosts improved to 6-3-2.

Carson Sadler kicked off the scoring when he slashed home the rebound after Finn Richmond's attempt was stopped by Nunez.  Maritime immediately added another tally, with Richmond finding Jude Callan, who put home a blast to increase the host's advantage to a pair of goals.  Richmond and Sadler connected again in the 10th minute to make it 3-0 Privateers.

Later in the half, Jeferson Blanco scored two goals 66 seconds apart to give SUNY Maritime a commanding 5-0 lead. Conor Espinoza capped the scoring for the evening in the 36th minute, rocketing one under the crossbar to hit paydirt, making it 6-0.

SUNY Maritime out-shot Medgar Evers 18-0 in the second half, but the Privateers weren't able to add another goal. For the evening, the hosts outshot the Cougars 42-2.

As for the goaltenders, Augusto Lebron played the first 19 minutes in net and earned the victory. Aidan Slovensky logged 71 minutes of shutout action in relief, making one save.

Medgar Evers goalkeeper Clirian Nunez faced 42 shots and tallied 10 saves.

The Cougars will return to action on Wednesday afternoon, as Medgar Evers will take on Lehman College in a CUNYAC match. The contest will take place at Lehman College's South Field, with a start-time of 4:00pm.
