After competitive first half, Roadrunners speed past Cougars in final 20 minutes at Bradley Center

The Medgar Evers women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Roadrunners of Ramapo College by a score of 62-32. The contest took place at the Bradley Center in Mahwah, NJ. With the defeat, the Cougars dipped to a mark of 0-5 on the 2025-2026 campaign, while Ramapo improved to 4-1.

Despite the loss, the Cougars were led by newcomer Moutiatou Djibring, as she recorded a team-high 12 points to go along with a game-high seven boards. Jennifer Metra added eight points, six boards, and a pair of assists, and Alexis Davis finalized her afternoon with seven points and four rebounds.

Lauren Flatt paced the Roadrunners in their victory, as she netted a game-high 17 points (5-6 FT) while leading all Ramapo players in caroms with six. Her four steals were also a game-high. Jocelyn Huancaya added nine points, four rebounds, and a pair of steals, and Denay Jones contributed eight points, five rebounds, a game-high four assists, and two steals.

Trailing 7-2 in the opening 4:05 of action, the Cougars utilized a converted freebee by Djibring, and consecutive buckets by Metra and Djibring to knot the game at seven apiece. The Roadrunners then finished the quarter on an 8-2 run, capped by a converted triple by Adriana Madrid just before the buzzer sounded on the period. After 10 minutes of action, Ramapo led 15-9.

Fueled by consecutive drained three-point baskets by Metra, Medgar Evers kept the game interesting in the second quarter, trailing just 20-16 with 5:41 remaining in the half. The Cougars' offense went cold from there, however, as the visitors misfired on all five of their shot attempts and turned the ball over four times, failing to score any additional points in the period. At halftime, the Roadrunners held a 25-16 advantage.

The third quarter was dominated by Ramapo, as the hosts outscored Medgar Evers 16-4 while only allowing one converted Cougars field goal. The hosts led 41-20 after three, and spent a majority of the fourth quarter gradually building their lead. The Roadrunners led by as many as 32 in the fourth, before advancing to capture the contest by 30.

Ramapo converted on 38.6 percent of its shot attempts from the floor (22-57), while also making the most of its opportunities at the stripe, draining 13 of 17 there (76.5 percent). On the flip side, the Cougars connected on just 11 of 42 shots (26.2 percent), while misfiring on 11 free throws (8-19, 42.1 percent). The Roadrunners held a modest 41-34 edge on the glass, while also swiping 16 steals to just three for Medgar Evers. The hosts piled 13 assists while the Cougars had five, and Ramapo won the turnover battle, committing just 14 miscues compared to 25 for Medgar Evers.

The Cougars will return to action next weekend, as Medgar Evers will host the Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament on November 29 and 30. On the first day of the tournament, the Cougars will take on USMMA at 12:00pm with the other game featuring two-time defending Division III National champion NYU taking on Colby Sawyer at 2:00pm. The following day, the consolation and championship games will unfold at 12:00pm and 2:00pm, respectively.
