Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Cougars defeated convincingly by University of Mount Saint Vincent in 2025 season opener

The Cougars' men's soccer team (0-1) opened its 2025 campaign on Wednesday evening, falling to the Dolphins of Mount Saint Vincent University by a score of 7-0. The match took place at the Athletic Field at Marillac in Riverdale, NY. While the contest served as Medgar Evers' season opener, the host Dolphins improved to a mark of 2-0 on the year.

Mount Saint Vincent University needed only six minutes to put the match out of reach. William Sornin got the scoring underway, blasting a shot into the net just three minutes into the action. After Sornin's tally, Javier Trujillo, Manuel Vidal, and Marti Senyer all buried shot attempts to give the home school a comfortable lead in the early stages.

After taking that aforementioned 4-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime, the Dolphins continued to pepper shots into the net in the second session, as Luka Gelevski and David Marquez would each slash home shots to make it 6-0 Brandon Brad rounded out the scoring with the team's seventh and final tally.

Mount Saint Vincent's defense was equally as tremendous on the evening, allowing just two Cougars shot attempts on the evening (a shot-on goal by Belco Guendeba, and another shot by Taye Simon).

The Dolphins' Samuel Reine earned the victory in net, logging 45 scoreless minutes and stopping one shot. Miguel Fierro (17:15 of action) and Joey Wiant (27:45 of action) split time in the pipes during the second half, with neither of those netminders facing a shot.

Medgar Evers will return to action on Saturday afternoon, traveling to New London, CT to battle Mitchell College in another non-conference affair. Start-time is scheduled for 2:00pm.
