Men's Indoor Track & Field

Indoor Track and Field earns plethora of CUNYAC weekly awards (1/5-1/11) following stellar efforts at Wesleyan Invitational

The Medgar Evers College, Indoor Track & Field teams dominated the CUNYAC awards distinctions for the period of January 5 through January 11, as Brianna Lindo (Track Athlete & Rookie of the Week), Reco Griffith (Track Athlete of the Week), Omari Hinds (Field Athlete of the Week), and Pharell Fowler (Honorable Mention) all earned honors.

All of the aforementioned distinctions were earned due to the student-athletes' stellar performance this past weekend (January 10) at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, Connecticut.

Brianna Lindo turned in a dominant and versatile performance on the track, highlighted by a 3rd-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, where she ran 9.38 to earn CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying marks while setting a new Medgar Evers College school record. She also placed 4th in the 60 meters, clocking 8.30 to earn a CUNYAC qualifier and personal best, and followed up with a strong showing in the 200 meters, finishing 8th in 27.77 (27.35 converted) to secure yet another CUNYAC qualifying mark. Lindo's consistency across sprint and hurdle events, combined with her record-breaking performance, made her the clear leader of the Medgar Evers women's track contingent and one of the top performers of the meet.

In the field events, Lindo showcased rare versatility and competitive consistency across multiple disciplines. In the high jump, she cleared 1.45 meters (4'9") to earn a CUNYAC qualifying mark, placing among the top competitors in a strong Division II and III field. She also competed in the long jump, recording a mark of 4.30 meters (14'1.25"), demonstrating technical proficiency and athletic range. Lindo's most impactful field performance came in the weight throw, where she recorded a personal best of 9.11 meters (29'10.75"), a mark that ranks #5 all-time in Medgar Evers College program history. Her ability to qualify, set personal and program benchmarks, and contribute meaningfully across jumping and throwing events in a single meet underscores her elite adaptability and competitive value. Lindo's performance firmly establishes her as one of the conference's most dynamic field athletes this week.

Reco Griffith delivered a veteran-level performance to open the 2026 indoor season, establishing himself as one of the premier sprinters in the conference. Griffith captured 1st place in the 60 meters with a time of 6.99, earning both CUNYAC and AARTFC regional qualifying marks against a strong Division II and III field. He followed that with a 2nd-place finish in the 200 meters, clocking 23.07 (22.67 converted) to secure another CUNYAC qualifier. His consistency, competitive poise, and ability to perform and improve under pressure were instrumental in setting the tone for Medgar Evers College's success this week.

Omari Hinds delivered one of the most complete and impactful field performances of the week across the CUNYAC. He headlined the competition with a historic clearance of 1.95 meters (6'4.75") in the high jump, earning CUNYAC and AARTFC regional qualifying marks, setting a new Medgar Evers College school record, and recording a personal best—all against strong Division II and III competition. Hinds also earned a CUNYAC qualifier in the long jump, finishing 11th with a mark of 6.09 meters (19'11.75"), and competed in the triple jump, where he placed 12th with a distance of 11.08 meters (36'4.25").

Pharell Fowler continued his strong collegiate start with a versatile and productive weekend, making an immediate and emphatic impact. Fowler finished 2nd in the 60 meters with a CUNYAC-qualifying personal best of 7.10, then followed up with a 3rd-place finish in the 200 meters, posting a converted time of 22.76 that ranks #5 all-time in Medgar Evers College history. He also competed in the 400 meters, demonstrating range and composure beyond his experience level. Fowler's breakout performance signals a bright future and establishes him as one of the conference's top first-year athletes.

The Cougars will return to action on Saturday, January 17, as the indoor track and field teams will travel to the Gregory Field House in New London, CT to compete in the Coast Guard Academy Winter Invitational. Start-times are to-be-announced.
