The Medgar Evers College Indoor Track & Field program opened calendar year 2026 with a strong and confident showing at the Wesleyan Winter Invitational, hosted by Wesleyan University. Competing against a deep and competitive field that included top Division II and III programs such as the University of New Haven, UMass Dartmouth, Connecticut College, and Bates College, the Cougars wasted no time re-establishing themselves as a force to be reckoned with. Despite the post-holiday timing of the meet, MEC demonstrated exceptional poise, grit, and competitive maturity across all event groups. The team produced an impressive collection of CUNYAC qualifying marks, AARTFC regional qualifiers, school records, personal bests, and all-time program performances.

Quote from Coach Reid:

"This meet showed exactly who we Medgar Evers College is as a track and field program—tough, resilient, and ready to compete," Reis said. "Coming off the holiday break, our student-athletes didn't just show up. They performed, set records, qualified, and supported one another. This is the standard we're building toward in 2026."

Notable Performer for the Women: Brianna Lindo

Brianna Lindo turned in a dominant and versatile performance on the track, highlighted by a 3rd-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, where she ran 9.38 to earn CUNYAC and AARTFC qualifying marks while setting a new Medgar Evers College school record. She also placed 4th in the 60 meters, clocking 8.30 to earn a CUNYAC qualifier and personal best, and followed up with a strong showing in the 200 meters, finishing 8th in 27.77 (27.35 converted) to secure yet another CUNYAC qualifying mark. Lindo's consistency across sprint and hurdle events, combined with her record-breaking performance, made her the clear leader of the Medgar Evers women's track contingent and one of the top performers of the meet.

In the field events, Lindo showcased rare versatility and competitive consistency across multiple disciplines. In the high jump, she cleared 1.45 meters (4'9") to earn a CUNYAC qualifying mark, placing among the top competitors in a strong Division II and III field.
