Cougars produce plethora of CUNYAC and AARTFC regional qualifiers, personal records, and multiple MEC records/all-time marks at Triangle Classic

In its final tune-up before the CUNYAC Championships, the Medgar Evers College Indoor Track & Field program delivered a confident and composed performance at the Triangle Classic hosted by Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
 
Competing against a strong field that included Amherst College, Wesleyan University, United States Coast Guard Academy, Trinity College, Connecticut College, and the host Pride, the Cougars showcased resilience and competitive maturity across all event groups. The women's team placed 3rd overall, while the men finished 7th, capping off a meet that produced CUNYAC qualifiers, AARTFC regional standards, school records, personal bests, and multiple all-time program marks.

Notable Performer for the Women: Brianna Lindo
 
Brianna Lindo put forth one of the most impactful all-around performances of the meet. On the track, she broke the MEC school record in the 600 meters (1:45.11, converted 1:43.84) and won the pentathlon 800 meters in 2:36 (converted 2:34.22, CUNYAC).
In the field, she placed 3rd overall in the pentathlon with 2,145 points, highlighted by a winning high jump of 1.53m (CUNYAC PR), a PR of 8.74m in the shot put (2nd place), and a 4.48m mark in the long jump (4th place). She also added a 6th-place finish in the triple jump (10.37m, CUNYAC) and competed in the weight throw (8.50m).
Her ability to excel across both track and field disciplines as a freshman underscores her immediate impact and her continued growth at a critical point in the season.

Additional Women's Highlights:

Thenica Thompson led the way in the sprints, running 8.30 (11th, CUNYAC) in the 60 meters and returning in the 400 meters to clock 1:05.61 (12th, CUNYAC).
 
Danajah Lawrence posted 8.35 (14th, CUNYAC) in the 60 meters and 27.97 (22nd, CUNYAC) in the 200 meters, and also earned a PR of 6.83m in the shot put.
 
Rinnah Brown earned times of 27.60 (21st, CUNYAC) in the 200 and 1:06.02 (13th, CUNYAC) in the 400. She also finished 14th in the 60-Meter hurdles (9.99, CUNYAC PR), the third-best performance in that event in MEC history. The standout also placed 8th in the long jump with a leap of 4.96m (CUNYAC), moving to #2 all-time in MEC history. She finalized her stellar weekend with a triple jump score of 9.76.
 
Nana Samake delivered a strong double, finishing 13th in the 800 meters (2:44.40, CUNYAC) and 12th in the mile (6:19.99, CUNYAC).
 
The 4x400m relay team of Brown, Lawrence, Thompson, and Argueta ran 5:08.42 (8th)
 
The 4x800m relay squad of Lindo, Kenia Irish-Bramble, Jada Lambert, and Samake placed 3rd in 11:23.40 (converted 11:15.61), setting a new MEC school record.
 
Jennifer Metra (6.96m PR) flourished in the weight throw.
 
In the pentathlon, Jada Lambert finished 4th with 1,619 points, ranking #5 all-time in MEC history. She also added PRs in the high jump (1.35m), 800 meters (2:50.40, converted 2:48.46), and shot put (6.74m), along with 4.32m in the long jump.

Notable Performers for the Men: Reco Griffith, Omari Hinds, and Ahmed Toure
 
Reco Griffith put forth a a statement performance at the Triangle Classic. Griffith finished 2nd in the 60 meters in 6.96, achieving both a CUNYAC qualifying mark and an AARTFC regional standard. He then captured the 200-meter title, winning the event in 22.05 (CUNYAC). Competing against a deep Division III field, Griffith demonstrated championship form and momentum heading into the conference meet.
 
Omari Hinds delivered a dominant all-around field performance. He placed 2nd in the long jump with a CUNYAC mark of 6.71m, 4th in the high jump clearing 1.82m (CUNYAC), and 13th in the triple jump at 12.12m (CUNYAC). Hinds also contributed on the track with a 23.26 (CUNYAC) performance in the 200 meters and helped the 4x400m relay to a 6th-place finish in 4:09.14. His versatility and consistency make him a key scoring threat heading into championships.
 
Ahmed Toure put forth an impressive multi-event performance in the heptathlon. Toure scored 1,927 points (8th overall) and posted PRs in the high jump (1.60m), 60-meter hurdles (12.91), and 1000 meters (3:56.41). He vaulted 2.75m in the pole vault (CUNYAC qualifying mark and PR), ranking #4 all-time in MEC history, and threw 9.10m in the shot put while jumping 5.12m in the long jump. Toure also recorded a PR of 8.74m in the weight throw. His growth, competitiveness, and scoring potential continue to elevate the program's future.

Additional Men's Highlights:

Leshaun Miller ran 7.37 (31st, CUNYAC) in the 60 and added a PR of 5.52m in the long jump.
 
Matthew Fleming recorded PRs in the 200 meters (27.79), 400 meters (1:03.75), and long jump (4.00m).
 
The 4x400m relay team of Griffith, Miller, Fleming, and Hinds placed 6th in 4:09.14.
 
In the heptathlon, David Awaye finished 9th with 1,206 points, ranking #5 all-time in MEC history. Awaye added a PR of 5.47m in the long jump, 6.74m PR in the shot put, and ran 3:22.35 (PR) in the 1000 meters.

Up Next for the Cougars:
 
The Cougars will return to action on Sunday evening, as the teams will make the short trip to the Armory in New York, NY to compete in the 2025-2026 CUNYAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. Both squads will be aiming to win their third consecutive conference crowns. Start-time is scheduled for 6:00pm.
