The Medgar Evers College men's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC game last night, falling to the Hawks of Hunter College by a score of 76-63. The contest took place at the Cougars Cave in Brooklyn, NY. With the defeat, Medgar Evers dipped to a mark of 0-18 on the 2025-2026 campaign (0-7 CUNYAC), while the Hawks improved to 3-15 (1-6 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for the Cougars, Medgar Evers was paced by veteran Boubacar Mbaye, as he posted game-highs of 18 points and four steals to go along with three rebounds. Additionally, newcomer Isaiah Grant contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, and two steals, and Ahmed Toure netted eight points, pulled down a team-best eight boards, tied for the game-high of four steals, and added three assists. Nicholas Bocharov and Joash Beaton scored six points apiece, with Bocharov also recording a game-high seven assists, five rebounds, and two steals.

Four players scored in double figures for the Hawks in their victory, including Jayden Jarrett, as he led the way with a double-double, tying for the team-high of 16 points, while also tying for the game-high of 10 rebounds. JP Maaba tied for the team-high of 16 points, while also grabbing three rebounds and tying for the team-high of three assists. Demetrios Kontos posted a double-double, netting 12 points and tying for the game-high of 10 rebounds, and Jeremiah Otasowie registered 11 points while snatching three rebounds and piling three dimes.

The Hawks led for most of the game, going ahead for good (7-6) on Jarrett's made jumper with 16:44 remaining in the first half. Hunter gradually built its lead from there, going up by as many as 18 points following a converted trifecta by Georgios Gatsias with 5:39 left in the session. The Cougars used an 8-2 run (highlighted by five points from Grant) to inch to within 11 points (37-26), but the Hawks finished the session on a 10-5 spurt to take a 47-31 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

In the opening six seconds of the second half, Jarrett converted on a pair of freebees to put Hunter ahead 49-31. Medgar Evers then responded with a 14-2 run (courtesy five points from Boubacar, a triple apiece from Bocharov and Michael Perez, a hoop from Ahmed Toure, and a made free throw by Grant) to slice Hunter's edge to seven (51-44) with 13:19 left.

Almost three minutes later, the Cougars inched even closer to the Hawks when Perez made a jumper in the paint to get Medgar Evers to within five (54-49) with 10:38 left. That would be the closest the Cougars would get however, as Hunter would finish the game knocking down seven of their final 11 shots, and seven of their last 10 free throws, to hold off Medgar Evers. The Hawks scored 22 of the final 36 points to account for the 13-point margin of victory (76-63).
