Kevin Blackstock takes on expanded role, will serve as women's soccer head coach and coordinator of soccer operations

Medgar Evers College has announced the appointment of Kevin Blackstock as the new Head Coach of the women's soccer program. Blackstock, who was named the College's men's soccer head coach just months ago, will now lead both Cougar soccer programs while taking on an expanded role as Coordinator of Soccer Operations.

In this newly created capacity, Blackstock will oversee the development, progress, and long-term direction of both the men's and women's soccer programs, helping establish a unified vision and a sustainable culture of excellence across Cougar soccer.

A championship-winning head coach and 2024 EDP Coach of the Year, Blackstock has developed a reputation for identifying, developing, and placing elite talent while building winning programs from the ground up. His coaching philosophy emphasizes competitive excellence, player development, academic achievement, and creating opportunities for student-athletes to advance to the next level.

Blackstock's success has extended across multiple levels of soccer. Most recently, he guided the Progressive Youths Soccer Club in Brooklyn to a historic achievement, leading the only New York-based team to the 2025 National League Championship Finals in Florida. His teams have also captured numerous EDP Premier and CGSL league championships, along with back-to-back League Cup titles.

At the Charter School Athletic Association, Blackstock led his soccer program to consecutive CSAA league championships, maintaining an undefeated record throughout both championship campaigns. His ability to build competitive programs was also evident during his tenure at Medgar Evers College Preparatory School, where he established a program from its inception and guided the team to a remarkable record that included just one regular-season defeat over a two-year span.

The success of Blackstock's student-athletes has extended beyond the soccer field. Under his leadership, his programs maintained a strong academic standard while competing at a high level, reinforcing his commitment to developing student-athletes both athletically and academically.

Blackstock has also enjoyed considerable success at the semi-professional level. He has overseen a four-time undefeated UPSL Cup championship team while managing high-level senior rosters. Those experiences have further strengthened his ability to identify talent, develop players, and create pathways to higher levels of competition.

Perhaps one of Blackstock's most distinctive strengths is his extensive international recruitment and professional development network. He has helped Brooklyn-based athletes earn professional opportunities and trials in France, Italy, England, Germany, Portugal, and Ireland, while also placing elite domestic talent into MLS and MLS Next Pro environments.

His player-development pipeline has also helped numerous student-athletes earn scholarships at NCAA Division I, Division II, and Division III institutions, providing young athletes with opportunities to continue both their academic and athletic careers.

Now, Blackstock will bring that experience to both sides of Medgar Evers College soccer.

As men's and women's head coach and Coordinator of Soccer Operations, Blackstock will be positioned to develop a comprehensive soccer culture at Medgar Evers College—one centered on recruitment, player development, academic success, competitive excellence, and opportunities beyond college.

His appointment represents a significant investment in the future of Cougar soccer and provides Medgar Evers College with a coach whose experience spans youth, scholastic, collegiate, semi-professional, and international soccer.

With two programs now under his leadership, Blackstock will look to build on his track record of championship success and establish Medgar Evers College soccer as a destination for talented student-athletes seeking to compete, develop, earn degrees, and pursue opportunities at the next level.

The Cougar soccer era under Kevin Blackstock is only beginning.
