Freshman forward Kevin Blackstock Jr. has been named both the CUNYAC Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week for the period of Sept. 1-7, the conference announced following a sensational collegiate debut for the Medgar Evers College men's soccer team.
Blackstock Jr. played a starring role in the Cougars' season-opening victory Saturday at Mitchell College, registering five shots, including four on goal, and scored twice to lead the Cougars to victory. His two-goal performance immediately established the freshman as one of the central figures in what promises to be a new era of Medgar Evers men's soccer.
The CUNYAC weekly honors are the first of Blackstock Jr.'s collegiate career and come after just one official match.
For the Cougars, the victory at Mitchell represented more than simply a season-opening triumph. It marked the program's first win in a season opener in 16 years and provided an early statement for a young Medgar Evers squad looking to build momentum in 2026.
Medgar Evers will look to continue its strong start Wednesday afternoon, when the Cougars travel to the Aviator Sports Complex for a non-conference borough battle against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn). Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
