Morristown, NJ- The Lady Cougars Women's Volleyball team finished up their 2011 season when they played The King's College Lions and College of St. Elizabeth Screaming Eagles. The matches took place on Saturday Oct.29, 2011 at CSE.
In match 1, The King's College Lions, a club team in its 2nd year defeated the Lady Cougars 3-0 (25-9, 25-17, 25-22). The Lions improved their record to 1-6 while the Lady Cougars fell to 0-22.
MEC didn't play well in the first 2 sets. They made too many errors and the Lions capitalized on them. They had more service aces than MEC tallied (17-9). MEC was led by
Catheline Joseph. Joseph tallied 5 kills to go along with 6 digs and a solo block.
Yvanna Jack and
Janiece Hill each tallied 4 kills.
AnnMarie Bemberry led her team in assists with 5, Hill and
Grace Mercado led in service aces with 3, and Joseph and Mercado each tallied 6 digs.
The King's College was led by Rikki Heath who tallied a match high 6 kills.
In match 2, CSE which played MEC last Thursday in Brooklyn, now once get again meet on the court. CSE won easily 3-0 (25-17, 25-6, 25-8). The first set was back and forth action, as neither team had a large lead until it 19-17 CSE. They would score the remaining 6 more points and win the set and match. CSE would extend their record to 16-16 Overall while the Lady Cougars finished their season at 0-23.
The Lady Cougars in the loss were led by
Yvanna Jack. Jack tallied 3 kills, to go along with an assist and 4 blocking assists.
AnnMarie Bemberry led the team in assists with 2,
Janiece Hill led in service aces with 1, and
Catheline Joseph led in digs with 5.
CSE was led by Kareemah Muhammad. She tallied 8 kills in the win.
This season was a challege for first yr Head Coach
Charita Henry and Assistant Coaches Omar Sandimanie, Taisiya Zuyeva and Desmond Hamilton. The team which is losing
Yvanna Jack due to graduation, will look to bring back their core and bring in new players that can get this program back on the right track. As the year turns to 2012, MEC Cougars Women's Volleyball will leave this season and turn the page to a better future.
