COUGARS BEAT JOHN JAY TO EVEN AT .500 RECORD IN CUNYAC

Box Score New York, NY- The Cougars defeated John Jay 83-63 on Friday January 27, 2012 at John Jay College. The win improved MEC to 13-8 Overall and 4-4 CUNYAC while the Bloodhounds dropped to 8-12 Overall and 1-7 CUNYAC.

MEC opened up 6-0 run and led by as much as 12pts. John Jay stormed back with 8:10 left in the half, to take the lead 21-20. The Bloodhounds opened up a 4-0 run, before MEC's Winston Douglas connected on 4 straight free throws. MEC briefly had the lead before John Jay took it back. John Jay would lead by 3pts to go into the half. 

In the 2nd half, MEC opened with a 9-0 run. MEC led by as much as 22pts. It was definitely a tale of two halves. MEC shot 50% from the field in the 2nd half compared to 37.5% in the 1st. They shot 33.3% from 3pt. range compared to 0 in the 1st, and overall 91.4% from the free throw line compared to John Jay's 69.6%.

MEC was led by Winston Douglas. The Junior tallied his 15th Double Double of the season. He scored 25pts (7-8 FT), grabbed 21 rebounds, recorded 3 assists, 3 blocks, and 4 steals. Brian Johnson scored 20pts (8-9 FT) and grabbed 10 rebounds, tallied 3 assists, and 2 steals. Jovan Deare scored 18pts (12-12 FT), grabbed 3 rebounds, tallied 4 assists, a block, and 2 steals.

John Jay was led by Jerome Alexander. He scored 25pts. Jamar Harry scored 17pts and Isaiah Holman added 14pts.

MEC will be back in action on Sunday January 29, 2012 when they play the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears at MEC. Game time is 4pm.
