Box Score Brooklyn, NY- On Thursday Oct. 11, 2012, the Women's Volleyball squad played HVWAC rival Pratt Institute Cannoneers at Medgar Evers College. The Cougars wore Dig Pink shirts prior to the match, as all month long they are raising money for Breast Cancer. In between the 2
nd and 3
rd set, a $500 check was presented to Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. Accepting the check was Erminia Rivera of the Gilbert Rivera Charitable Foundation. Next to Mrs. Rivera, was Athletic Director
Renee Bostic, Dr. William Pollard (President of Medgar Evers College) and Dr. Janice Borlandoe (Vice President of Student Affairs)
Now for the match itself, Pratt and Medgar Evers College have played a total of 20 sets in the last 3 seasons. They are both even played teams and both were looking for their first victory in 2012. Pratt defeated Medgar Evers College 3-2 (25-27, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 15-7). Medgar Evers won the 1
st and 3
rd set. They made a combine 20 kills in those sets. The downfall for the Cougars was, they tallied more attacking errors and service errors compared to their opponent.
In the loss, Junior
Catheline Joseph led the Cougars with 16 kills, to go along with 4 service aces, 9 digs, and 3 solo blocks. Fellow classmate Janice Hill added 11 kills and earned a team lead 6 service aces. Sophomore
AnnMarie Bemberry achieved a match high 29 assists.
In the win, Pratt was led by Adriana DeCervantes with 6 kills and Diana Lezama with 9 service aces.
Pratt improved to 1-4 Overall and 1-3 HVWAC while Medgar Evers College drops to 0-16 Overall and 0-5 HVWAC.
Medgar Evers College will be back in action on Saturday Oct. 13, 2012, when they travel to Morristown, NJ and play in a dual match with New Jersey City University and host College of Saint Elizabeth. Game times are 1pm and 3pm.
