Box Score Oswego, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball squad defeated the D'Youville College Spartans 100-69 in the Consolation of the 2012 Max Ziel Tournament held at Oswego State University. The win improved the Cougars record to 1-1 Overall while the Spartans dropped to 0-2 Overall.

The Cougars led from the opening tip. They led by as much as 18pts in the half and 33 for the game. This was a must win for the Cougars after they experienced not the start they wanted the night before. For the game, the Cougars shot 49.4% from the field, 14.3% from 3pt. range, and 54.8% from the free throw line. The Spartans shot 30.3% from the field, 17.5% from 3pt. range, and 57.1% from the free throw line.

In the win, the Cougars were led by Senior Captain Jovan Deare with a career high 33pts.(15-19 FT-FTA). Deare moved into 4th on the all time Medgar Evers scoring list with 1274pts for his career. Deare grabbed 13 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals. Senior Winston Douglas scored 20pts and grabbed 19 rebounds. Douglas was also named to the All Tournament Team. He also earned 3 assists, 6 blocks, and 4 steals. Sophomore Valin Williams added 15pts and 15 rebounds. Junior Kayode Prime knocked in 12pts. 

D'Youville in the loss was led by Jon Gemerek with 18pts.

Medgar Evers College will be back in action on Monday November 19, 2012 when they play the Vermont Tech College Knights in the 2012-13 Home Opener in Brooklyn, NY. Game time is 8pm.
