COUGARS BEAT LIGHTNING 70-58

Box Score Brooklyn, NY- The Medgar Evers College Men's Basketball squad defeated the Lehman College Lightning 70-58 in the 2012-13 CUNYAC Opener. The Cougars improved to 3-2 Overall and 1-0 CUNYAC while Lehman dropped to 3-1 Overall and 1-1 CUNYAC.

Lehman College led for almost all the 1st half with Medgar Evers College tying the score once at 2-2. Lehman led by as much as 13pts in the half. Medgar Evers College didn't not lie down and kept the game in reaching distance after the double digit deficit.

In the 2nd half, Lehman led by 8pts before Medgar Evers College tied the game twice. The first tie was at 44 a piece,when Junior Forward Kayode Prime nailing 3pt from the corner, then Freshman Mark Hudson made a 3pt shot tying the score at 47. The Cougars and Lightning would each have the lead for about 2 minutes after that. Medgar Evers College took the lead for good with 9:31 left in the game, on a Kayode Prime layup. The Cougars finished the game on a 17-7 run.

Medgar Evers College in the win was led by Senior Guard and Captain Jovan Deare with a game high 22pts (8-10 FT-FTA), 8 rebounds and 3 assists. Deare is 19pts away from becoming the All Time Scoring Leader in Medgar Evers College Program History. Fellow Classmate Winston Douglas scored 15pts (2-2 FT-FTA) and grabbed 12 rebounds, his 5th straight double double. Douglas added a trifecta of fours, 4 assists, 4 blocks, and 4 steals.

Lehman College in the loss was led by Kelvin Gil with 20pts. Stanley Stephens and Quaseem Weems each added 13pts and 12pts respectively.

Medgar Evers College will be back in action on Friday November 30, 2012, when they travel to Upper Manhattan and play the City College of New York Beavers. Game time is 7pm.
