Box Score Bronx, NY- The 6th seeded Cougars defeated the 3rd seeded Lehman College Lightning 63-60 on Saturday February 18, 2012 at the 2011-12 CUNYAC/ Con Edison Basketball Championships. This was a Quarter Finals matchup. MEC moved on in a great game between the two schools. MEC has now won the last 4 meetings and 2 striaghts QF wins. The match took place at Hostos Community College. The Cougars improved to 16-10 Overall while the Lightning fell to 12-14 Overall.

MEC led the first 13 minutes. MEC led by 7pts at one point. With 6:14 left in the 1st half, Stanley Stephens tied the game at 60 on a layup. A 3pt shot from Mathias Raggiotto gave Lehman a 23-20 lead. Brian Johnson who make a jumper cutting the lead to 1 (23-22 with 4:13 left in the half). Malcom Ellis would follow with a jumper giving the Cougars a 24-23 lead, then a Johnson jumper from 20ft away ending the Cougars a 4-0 run at the break.

The 2nd half started the Cougars off right. They would lead by 7pts before Lehman stormed back. A 3pt. shot by Raggiotto, gave Lehman a 1pt lead 31-30. A brief lead by a Brian Johnson layup gave the Cougars a 1pt lead. Lehman countered with 3-0 lead. With 15 minutes left in the game, Winston Douglas made a 3pt shot tying the game at 35. MEC would lead by 3pts. The lead would swing back and forth until Lehman took control. They lead for 7 minutes and 7pts. With 1:10 left in the game, Jovan Deare tied the game at 58 with a jumper. With 22 secs left in the game, Freshman Malcolm Ellis nailed a huge 3pt. shot in the corner making the score 61-58 Cougars. Lehman had a golden opportunity to tie the game with 6 secs left. Mathias Raggiotto was fouled attempting a 3pt. shot. Raggiotto made the 1st free throw, but missed the 2nd free throw. He made the 3rd but it was too late. Jovan Deare finished Lehman off with a pair of free throws.

MEC was led by Jovan Deare. The Junior scored 24pts (8-8 FT). He grabbed 5 rebounds, tallied 4 assists and 2 steals. Winston Douglas tallied his 20th double double of the season. Douglas scored 14pts (4-6 FG, 4-5 3pt. range, 2-2 FT). He grabbed 17 rebounds, tallied an assist, and a block. Brian Johnson scored 13pts and Malcom Ellis added 10pts. 

Lehman was led by Mathias Raggiotto. Raggiotto scored a game high 26pts and Phil Ductan added 16pts.

The Cougars will be back in action on Tuesday February 21, 2012 when they travel to CCNY to play the York College Cardinals as the 7 seed in the 2011-12 CUNYAC/ Con Edison Men's Basketball Championships.
